The paper analyses the complex interplay of travelling, writing, and reading in Günter Grass’ ‚Was nicht geschrieben wurde‘ – a 2015 ballad, published posthumously, on Indian freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose. In text, narrator takes role biographer, condensing life story ambiguous political figure Bose into mere 12 pages. Biographical writing inevitably implies intertextual procedures. ostensibly biographical poem constructs network three intermedial strands: an in-depth examination traditional narratives from history mythology, explicit cross-connections to other texts India, especially ‚Zunge zeigen‘ (1989), individual references Bose’s autobiographical material. argues that India highlight analogies between travelling which shape access another culture (with drawing as intermediate step).
